Parenting styles Essay Example for Free

Parenting styles Essay 1.What are the different parenting styles used by families? Which do you think is better? Why? The three different parenting styles used by familes are authoritarian style, permissive style and democratic style. In my opinion, the better style of the three is the democratic style. Reason being, I believe kids should be disciplined and learn how to behave in a controlled environment for the future, but I also believe children should have their voices heard. I also believe that kids should make their own decisions in life because they wont have their parents their whole lives and need to learn how to live and make decisions on their own. The democratic style of parenting allows this to come into play. It is stern with the rules, but allows freedom for the children to make their own life choices, within reason. 2.What makes a person ready for parenthood? When should an individual consider entering parenthood? Who should postpone parenthood? Should everyone become a parent eventually? Do you think some people should not become parents altogether. A person whos ready for parenthood is one who has a stable job and income. One who can support the financial and emotional needs of a child and one who is ready to take on the responsibility of a life. An individual should consider taking on the task once they have a stable income, job and can provide for the child. One should also consider becoming a parent when he/she feels it is the correct time to do so. One should postpone parenthood if they feel as if they cannot be there 100% for their child. If they cannot financially support themselves, then they should not take on the responsibilities of caring for another life, especially one who cannot care for themselves. I don’t believe everyone should become a parent eventually. If you are not the caring and nurturing type of person and would not be  content with caring for another life, I do no think it would be a good idea to have a child. Some people are just not cut out for parenthood. Becoming a parent takes a lot of sacrifice. Whether it may be holding off on climbing the ladder of success or taking personal time away, parents are always sacrificing themselves for their children. If one is not ready for that type of commitment, then they should not enter the world of parenthood.

indias safest cars :: essays research papers

How often do you wake up to the news of a road accident that killed a few people in some part of the country? Almost everyday, right? Then you quickly browse through the other news and life goes on. Every year, over 80,000 people die on Indian roads; every five road accidents leave one dead. Yet, it's just a statistic, which hardly changes our apathy towards road safety. Yes, road safety is an unpleasant, boring subject, but remember, it affects us all. How safe is the car you are driving or about to buy? How does one rate safety and who does it? We have compiled some information on a handful of cars that are available across the world and are also on sale in India, and their safety features and test results. We think you have the right to know. First, a little backgrounder. By law, all cars have to be tested and have to meet certain standards to be street legal. New Car Assessment Programmes (NCAPs) are carried out by various testing agencies in the United States, Europe, Japan and Australia amongst other countries. The European NCAP carries out the most stringent crash tests, as well as pedestrian and child safety tests vis-Ã  -vis other assessment programmes. Euro NCAP is a collaboration between governmental and automotive associations and is overseen by the FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile). The money for these expensive tests comes from the EU, by which the widest possible range of models can be assessed. Euro NCAP carries out frontal offset, side impact and pole test and has a simple rating system that awards stars out of five. This rating system makes it easy to interpret safety standards in cars before people go out to buy them. Over and above this, manufacturers can go ahead and carry out further tests that are not required by legislation and choose to incorporate these additional safety features. Let's then see how the cars have fared now. The Hyundai Accent GLS got an adult occupant rating of 2.5 stars and a pedestrian test rating of 2 stars. The levels of chest injury in adult occupants was exceptionally high, and hence the Accent missed out a full third star. Moreover, this car was fitted with a driver side airbag. For cars sold in Europe, side airbags come as an option. Accents are also equipped with Isofix anchorages and are electronically assisted by ABS and EBD.

Evaluate High School Education in the US Essay

Despite the large number of students going to high school in the United States, there is not much of an assurance that they receive the necessary education that they should be getting. It is not the quantity of students attending high school that we should be concerned of, instead it should be the quality of education that these students get when they attend these schools. Right now, the current high school education being offered here in the United States is not enough to propel our nation’s youth to a successful future. Way back in the 1900s, only 10 percent of American adolescents falling between 14 to 17 years of age were enrolled in high schools, most of them from well-off families. When public secondary schools were introduced in the country, the number of students going to these schools increased dramatically. Comparing the 1900s and the year 2000, the percentage of teenagers who graduated from these high school institutions went up from only six percent to a whopping 88 percent (MSN Encarta, 2007). The main reason attributed to this increase was that more and more people especially those from the youth sector regarded education as a tool for success in an increasingly urban and industrialized city, thus greatly increasing the high school attendance rate. This could also be attributed to the strict labor laws which are enacted early in the 20th century, wherein fewer teenagers have to enter the workforce than that of the previous years. This gave them more time to focus on their education. With this at hand, we could then expect a better future, a better life after high school. But that wasn’t how it turned out to be. Despite the increasing number of high school students, still their performance are being questioned, whether or not they’re competitive in the real world. In an article by Angela Pascopella, it showed that it is necessary to have a shift in high school education in the country (Pascopella, 2005). This is based on a recent survey, wherein one education association stated that there is a need for â€Å"a shift in high school programs, challenging curriculum and continued focus on federal vocational education grant,† are the possible solutions to fix the high school education system of the country (Pascopella, 2005). According to the survey, two out of five high school graduates attested that there are certain gaps between what they learned in high school and the necessary skills, abilities and work habits that they need for actual work and for college education. The results showed that less than 25 percent of the respondents feel that they experienced a â€Å"challenge† in their high school education (Pascopella, 2005). These students take high school lightly, a walk in the park without actually learning the necessary skills and information that they need for the future that they will pursue. The need for a reform movement in high school education is high, since future complications resulting from these things are inevitable. The people in running this system deem the need to increase the academic rigor in high schools, and this can be achieved through proper planning and sorting, as to what is should be done for these students. The brilliant minds of the education system should collaborate in order to come up with an effective approach to fix this problem. High School education is definitely one of the best American inventions. It provided the proper supervision that the youth needs in his adolescence in order to prepare him for adulthood (MSN Encarta, 2007). This is a crucial stage which everyone should pay proper attention to, since the future of these youths means the future of our very own country. We need to give the best to fix this problem. Not only do we propel our youths towards success, we are also assured of a better world in the future.

Essay on A Critical Response to Vitruvius Alberti

ARC131 H1F 3rd October 2012 Mikaile Ibrahim FIRMITAS, UTILITAS, VENUSTAS A CRITICAL RESPONSE TO VITRUVIUS amp; ALBERTI Throughout history, the makings of an architect have changed by stark proportions and so did the requirements of the finished creation. Marcus Vitruvius Pollio (80 B.C.E), famously known as Vitruvius, wrote in The Ten Books on Architecture of how the architect must possess wide knowledge and expertise in many fields of study, and that his buildings must encompass firmitas [durability], utilitas [usefulness], venustas [beauty] (Vitruvius, 33) and harmonious symmetry that of which is found in nature and in man. Leon Battista Alberti (1407-1476), however, stresses in his book Art of Building in Ten Books that the†¦show more content†¦Vitruvius’ understanding is that the architect must be aware of every aspect of his creation, whereas today, these aspects are met by separate entities. Vitruvius also stresses on order, arrangement, eurhythmy, symmetry, propriety and economy and how architecture depends on these demands. This is not the case in today’s society. With advances in physics and construction sciences which allow buildings to be of asymmetrical shape and attain an abstract form directly places it in conflict with his stated ‘Eurhythmy’. To Vitruvius, all facets of architecture were to be in a state of complete harmony, as his views were so constrained towards the perfection of the human body. He described the various proportions of limbs and other body parts to be so accurately symmetrical and coordinated to meticulous detail. This perfection of the human body inspired architectural designs. In contemporary society, mainstream architecture has little to no correlation with the human body. It has been kept completely separate. Architectural inspiration today, more or less stems from everything outside the human, and looks towards a futur istic simplicity and sleek aesthetic that demands a different approach to the art of a building altogether. This commercial mindset has been influential since the engineering breakthroughs of the second millennium. As for Alberti, he holds the architect on a very noble and high ground of esteemed public
